Soil Amendments and Fertilizer
Compost Extract
This is a liquid extract of compost. It contains plant nutrients, beneficial microorganisms (bacteria, fungi, protozoa, nematodes), enzymes, organic acids, and plant growth promoting compounds that have been extracted from the compost.
A little bit goes a long way. Compost can be expensive to transport and apply in large quantities but many of the beneficial components of compost can be extracted and applied over a larger area with relative ease and at a lower cost.
Healthier plants are more resistant to disease, and soil microbial diversity contributes to plant health.

Wool

100% natural and Wyoming grown fertilizer. Wool is a great source of slow release nitrogen and potassium, sulfur, and micronutrients. It will not burn plants, and helps hold water in the soil.
Wool provides twice as much nitrogen as chicken manure and will greatly reduce watering frequency in containers. Use about 1/2 cup of wool pellets per gallon of soil for pots, and 1 pound (~4 cups) per 10 square feet of garden space.
You can read more about using wool in the soil here.
Biochar

Biochar is a valuable soil amendment and can help improve animal health.
-
Promotes healthy root development by improving soil structure and drainage.
-
Increases water and nutrient holding capacity of the soil
-
Provides habitat for soil microbes that are essential for nutrient cycling and plant health.
-
Improves saline or sodic soils by removing salts from the soil solution.
-
Mitigates toxins by immobilizing heavy metals and pesticides and preventing plants from absorbing them.
-
Reduces odors and pathogens in chicken coops and livestock pens.
Biochar is also available statewide through Eat Wyoming.
