If you are struggling with alkali or contaminated soil, extreme compaction, or very sandy soils, biochar is the tool you need.

Biochar provides immediate relief for compacted, sandy, and salt-affected soils (often called “alkali”). Biochar adds structure, water holding capacity, microbe habitats, and nutrient exchange sites. In sandy soils that rapidly lose water and nutrients, biochar will hold these in the root zone and support plant growth.

When used to boost soil health, biochar must first be “charged” with nutrients and biology before adding to the soil. Think of it like an inoculant that will then spread all of the beneficial biology throughout your garden.

Our Biochar+Vermicast blend will give heavy, sandy, or salt affected soils an immediate boost. The vermicast (worm poo) fills the binding sites on the biochar with nutrients and biology, and biochar adds porosity and helps hold water and air in the soil.Biochar is a source of stable carbon with a rapid and direct affect on soil function.

The vermicast also provides plant available nutrients, humic acids, and plant growth hormones like gibberellins, cytokinins, and auxins.

Research shows that vermicast helps seeds germinate more quickly, increases root numbers and biomass, improves plant stress tolerance, and increases plant growth and crop yields.

Biochar is a source of stable carbon that will last in the soil for centuries and will immediately improve water and nutrient holding capacity.  Biochar is also a great tool for the remediation of salt or herbicide affected soils.
