We think you should take out some of your lawn and grow food. But compost does help the grass grow!

We put compost on in October and noticed a striking difference in the grass color and growth in April the next year. We used this tool to spread the compost evenly across the lawn. It has the added benefit of catching any small rocks or sticks.

Compost could also be applied in the spring or summer. Be sure to water the compost in very thoroughly!

This is what it looked like after the compost was applied.

This is what it looked like in April.
